My Research: How Lahore's Parks Are Crucial for Our Well-Being Announcing My Thesis: The Impact of Green Spaces on Wellness in Urban Lahore

As part of my M.Sc in Sustainable Environmental Design from Allama Iqbal Open University, I conducted a detailed research study to assess the impact of green open spaces on human wellness in urban Lahore.

Rapid urbanization in Lahore has raised concerns about the impact on residents' overall well-being. My research explores the vital role that green spaces play in addressing these concerns, focusing on how they affect physical health, mental relaxation, and social interaction.

Key Findings from the Study

The research was conducted across 15 green spaces in Lahore, with a total of 450 residents participating in the survey. The results were very clear:

  • An overwhelming majority of residents (

79%) reported that their overall well-being felt "Much Better" after visiting a green space.

  • When asked what would make them visit more often, the top reason was

    "More Biodiversity" (52% of respondents).

  • Green spaces are considered

"Very Important" for social interaction and community building by 73% of participants.

  • For physical and mental health, 68% of residents rated green spaces as

    "Very Important".
